Code of Conduct
Welcome to coaching! It's an honor to be your coach and I look forward to working with you.
The relationship between a coach and client is co-creative, meaning that we are equals and both have an active role. I am not a therapist, counselor or consultant. Although, there will be times that I offer my advice on leadership development planning. I am a trained coach using honed communication skills to support you as a detached thinking partner. Coaching focuses on the present circumstances, listens for a trending story, reflects that back to you what is being said and asks what actions you would like to take to move forward. Consulting, on the other hand, is advice-giving. I will not give advice in our regular sessions, because your personal development, impact and true change will come when you discover your own solutions. Coaching is also different than therapy as I am not qualified to address addiction, trauma, childhood issues, and/or mental health challenges. I can refer if you would rather have a consultant or therapist. Together we create more power for you to effect meaningful change and take dynamic actions towards your goals.
Your Role
-
Please take time before each session to think about what you'd like to take away from the session. This is called the "Client Agenda".
-
Please arrive to every session on time and come to your session ready to engage.
-
Give me feedback in the moment about your coaching experience -- what works, as well as what does not.
-
Make our coaching sessions a priority. Come to every call with a specific agenda – a clear understanding of what you’d like to take away from the session.
-
Do your own work between sessions. Use what you learn. Complete what you agree to do. This is 100% for your benefit, not mine. It's so hard to change habits and challenge ourselves to make the change we want. I am here to support you and nudge you in ways that you choose.
-
Be open-minded. Try new approaches. Experiment.
-
Be willing to change your beliefs and patterns if they do not serve you anymore.
-
You are responsible for your own development, actions, and outcomes. I support, challenge, and keep you accountable to your own, self-identified, purpose.
My Role
-
I will listen closely to you, respond to what I hear and ask probing questions.
-
If I hear something in your voice or language that sparks an intuitive thought, I’m likely to ask you about it. Often, it is the small moments that bring about big shifts. If I'm not on target, please tell me. I'm not attached to being right.
-
Probing questions are seeking to unlock your deep motivations and get you to discover your own truths.
-
Coaching believes the client has the best answer from themselves. My questions seek to uncover that answer to allow you to move forward in ways that you desire.
-
At the end of the session, if you do not mention what actions you are ready to take, I will make a coach request. I ask clients to stretch themselves, deepen the work done in the sessions by writing, taking some action, resolving relationships or things that feel incomplete. You are free to negotiate, accept or decline.
-
I am not responsible for networking, career outcomes, or securing a job.
Unlimited Time
My services allow for unlimited time for appointments, texts, and emails. Whatever form of communication you are most comfortable with is what I will use. Please keep in mind that although I offer an unlimited amount of communication, I will respond between normal business hours. As long as I'm online, I'm available. When I am off work, I will get back with you by the next business day.
